Philips Brand History

Philips Corporation is one of the largest in the world (and the largest in Europe) manufacturer of consumer electronics. The main areas of business: consumer electronics, lighting systems and medical equipment.

The history of the corporation is more than one hundred years old. It all started in 1891, when the brothers Anton and Gerard Phillips founded a small company in the city of Eindhoven, which was mainly engaged in the production of electric lamps. It is called Philips & Co.

If the first time in production worked only a few dozen people, then by 1920 the brand had become quite famous and recognizable. The company receives the proud Koninklijke - "Royal" (Netherlands).

The company repeatedly changed logos. The circle with four stars and a triple wavy line (their variations were played before) appeared in 1926. The final look, preserved to this day, the logo acquired in 1930. However, today more often instead of a logo on production the simple inscription "Philips", executed in capital letters is exposed.

Throughout its history, the company has relentlessly increased its potential. It not only expanded the range of its products, but also constantly engaged in its own research - Philips owns thousands of patents, beginning in 1918, when the company began to patent its inventions.

Innovations from Philips (however, others were made in close cooperation with other companies, for example, the Japanese Sony) in the consumer electronics environment include such things as the audio cassette, video cassette, CD, Video CD, DVD ... - what achievements Philips can boast in the field of mobile communications. A lot of unique developments were made in the medical and lighting fields.

By the beginning of the 21st century, the range of Philips home electronics products included audio and video equipment, televisions, mobile phones (in 2007, the business was sold to Chinese China Electronics Corporation - CEC).

In 1997, the company changed its name from Philips & Co, to the used today - Royal Philips Electronics (well, or in the Dutch manner - Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.).

And in 2001 there was a change in the headquarters of the headquarters: a transfer from Eindhoven to Amsterdam took place.

The first half of 2011 was marked by the fact that the company decided to abandon the production of TVs, unable to withstand competition with Asian manufacturers. Production moved to TPV Technology from Hong Kong. Later, Lifestyle Entertainment, a division specializing in the production of audio and video equipment, was also sold.
