Maytag Brand History

Maytag is an American household appliance brand that belongs to the Whirlpool corporation.

 

Maytag was founded by Frederick Maytag in 1893 as a manufacturer of agricultural equipment. In 1915, production of own tractors and grain harvesting equipment was launched.

 

From 1915 to 1920 the company develops and produces various products from fountain pens to cars, but only thanks to the production of washing machines the company has gained wide popularity.

 

 The first washing machine "Pastime" was mechanical and made of wood. Later it was used electric motor and internal combustion engine for regions without electricity. Since 1919 began the production of reliable aluminum washing machines.

 

During the Second World War, Maytag produced engines and components for aircraft, but the company's management did not forget about the plans for the future and was preparing for expansion.

 

In 1946 the company began to develop refrigerating equipment for commercial organizations: shops, restaurants, hotels. Household refrigerators Maytag produces only since the late 1980s.

To strengthen its position in the global household appliance market, the company has acquired such well-known brands as Amana, Jenn-Air, Hoover and others.

 

In 2006, Maytag was bought by one of the largest producers of household appliances Whirlpool.
